John Lennon, Markiyan Matsekh

John Lennon made headlines on this day in 1966 for comparing The Beatles to Jesus. In fact, support for The Beatles is divided along political and generational fault lines

"My dad thought it was a stupid idea. He said, “Son, it’s a nice thought, but these people have been beaten by riot police. How is a piano going to cheer them up?” I just wanted to give people a reason to keep protesting."

Remembering John Lennon today, on the anniversary of his death.http://usat.ly/1wTUOQX

There was something in the way he moved us.
Dec. 8 marks the 34th anniversary of the night the legendary John Lennon was gunned down by Mark David Chapman outside his home in New York City.
Lennon was born on Oct. 9, 1940, in Liverpool, England. He would go on to change rock 'n' roll with The Beatles.
Brief excerpts of the former Beatles' last interview were released for a 1980 Rolling Stone cover story days after Lennon's death.

Where was John Lennon's funeral held? It's been exactly 30 years since John Lennon was shot to death outside his apartment building, The Dakota, in New York City. The former Beatle was returning from a recording studio with wife Yoko Ono when a deranged fan, Mark David Chapman, shot him from behind. Ono announced that there would be no funeral for Lennon. Instead, she asked that on the following Sunday fans observe 10 minutes of silent prayer in Lennon's memory. Millions of people worldwide participated in the event. The largest crowd — about 225,000 strong — gathered in New York City's Central Park to pray silently together. Later, a memorial garden named "Strawberry Fields" was established in Central Park, across the street from The Dakota. Fans gather there to remember Lennon on his birthday and the date of his death.
Quote:
"Imagine all the people Living life in peace/ You may say I'm a dreamer, But I'm not the only one/ I hope some day you'll join us, And the world will be one." John Lennon, "Imagine"

The Beatle returned the MBE he had been created in 1965 as a protest against Britain’s involvement in “the Nigeria-Biafra thing (內戰)” and its support of the US in Vietnam and against “Cold Turkey” (John Lennon單曲名) slipping down the charts.
