[Yesterday morning, Charles Koch gave a rare interview to “CBS Sunday Morning’s” Anthony Mason. I’ve annotated the following excerpt from that interview with the truth, and added one of our videos that makes clear what Charles and David Koch are really up to. Please spread the truth.]
MASON: "Do you think it's good for the political system that so much what's called 'dark money' is flowing into the process now?"
CHARLES KOCH: "First of all, what I give isn't dark. What I give politically, that's all reported. It's either to PACs or to candidates. And what I give to my foundations is all public information."
[Baloney. According to documents obtained by the Center for Media and Democracy, the hundreds of millions of dollars flowing into politics by way of the Kochs' network of political fronts like Freedom Partners are 501(c)4s that don’t have to report where the money comes from. Nor do funds from Koch Industries’ corporate treasury -- the second-largest privately held company in the world – have to be publicly reported. They include millions of dollars annually in personal checks from David and Charles Koch to political groups .
MASON: “But do you think it's healthy for the system that so much money is coming out of a relatively small group of people?"
KOCH: "Listen, if I didn't think it was healthy or fair, I wouldn't do it. Because what we're after, is to fight against special interests."
[Bunk. Koch Industries is one of the biggest special interests in America. Because its petro-chemical empire is threatened by environmental regulations, it finances “research” purporting to show climate change isn’t a problem. Because its holdings of Canadian oil would be worth less without the XL Pipeline, it’s financing a massive PR campaign in favor of it. Moreover, the Koch brothers have put together a group of billionaires that are putting almost $1 billion into the 2016 elections – a sum that’s as much as either political party will raise.]
MASON: "There are people out there who think what you're trying to do is essentially buy power."
KOCH: "But what I want is a system where there isn't as much centralized power, where it's dispersed to the people. And everything I advocate points in that direction."
[Horse manure. The Koch brothers want a system over which they have complete power. They couldn’t care less about “the people.” Their money even helped finance the group ‘Citizens United’ that went to the Supreme Court, claiming that corporations are “people” under the First Amendment. (Before that ruling, the Koch’s billionaire group hosted Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.) Charles and David Koch together have the largest fortune in America -- and they’re using it to undermine American democracy. Here are the Koch political front groups, most of which don't disclose their donors:
Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce
It's the financial hub of Koch network, distributing money to other groups. Also does TV advertising. Supported largely by donor dues.
Legal status: 501(c)(6) business association, some political activity allowed. Formed 2011.
Revenue: $255.7 million in 2012, $57.5 million in 2013
Donor disclosure: no
Volunteers reported: 0
Americans For Prosperity
Best known for multi-million-dollar TV blitzes, is also building ground operations in several states. Campaigned unsuccessfully this summer for anti-union legislation in Missouri.
Legal status: 501(c)(4), don't have to report sources. Formed 2004.
Revenue: $115.1 million in 2012, $44.2 million in 2013
Donor disclosure: no
Volunteers reported: 1,500
Freedom Partners Action Fund
Only fully political group in Koch network. SuperPAC donors have no contribution limits, can give via shell companies to protect identity. Corporate contributions are legal.
Legal status: superPAC. Formed 2014.
Revenue: $29.1 million in 2014
Donor disclosure: mostly yes
Volunteers reported: 0
The Libre Initiative
Active in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Texas, Colorado, 4 other states, building libertarian grassroots infrastructures in Latino communities.
Legal status: 501(c)(4). Formed 2011.
Revenue: $5.0 million in 2012, $9.5 million in 2013

Americans for Prosperity Foundation
Runs Bridges To Wellbeing workshops, teaching young parents topics including family budgets, couponing to lower grocery bills, citizen activism. Active in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia.
