Flying with her mother from Lima to Pucallpa, Juliane’s routine flight on LANSA Flight 508 suddenly became a nightmare when a lightning strike tore the plane apart midair. In a terrifying instant, the aircraft disintegrated, and Juliane was violently ejected from the wreckage—still strapped to her seat—plummeting over 3,000 meters into the dense Amazon rainforest below. Against all odds, she survived the fall, awakening injured but alive amid the vast wilderness.

Barefoot and wearing only a thin summer dress, Juliane faced the daunting jungle with little more than her wits and determination.
