這句讓我想起1965年的某天，父親拿起我從台中帶回大甲老家的英文教科書(也許是遠東版)，淘氣地說，他也會英文，就讀起來了。當然，當時我有點出乎意外。這是難得的父子互動。

當時一班是70人，上英語課時，聽不很清楚。我和一位同學跟英語老師說，都聽不懂。嚴老師要我們每天下課後，到校門外他的住宿處去，花幾天時間，家教我們KK標及拚音是怎回事。沒有他的無私的帶進門，我今天肯定是個外語文盲。
