The girl who wanted to become a prophet and changed world literature. 📖
Marjane Satrapi turned her childhood in Iran during the Islamic Revolution into one of the most important graphic novels in history.
That’s why we remember her through some of her most powerful quotes.

Love isn't about finding someone who completes you. It's about finding someone who accepts you completely." ❤️
For more than 30 years, Marjane Satrapi and Mattias Ripa built a life together in Paris, creating art, sharing dreams, and standing by each other through every chapter of life. When Mattias passed away in 2025, Marjane described him as the love of her life, and her words made it clear that a part of her had gone with him. 💔
Just over a year later, Marjane was gone too. Friends and family said she died of grief, a heartbreaking ending for a woman who survived exile, revolution, and decades of challenges, yet seemingly could not bear a world without the person she loved most. 😢
A love story that lasted for decades and ended with a loss the heart could not endure.

"I am the person I am not because of the nice things I did, but because of the mistakes I made, the slaps I got… So do not be scared to rebel if someone oppresses you. I am a rebellious woman and I am proud!"
— Marjane Satrapi
Goodbye to Marjane Satrapi (1969–2026), the voice of Persepolis, the writer and artist who brought the suffering of Iranians under oppression to the world's attention and revealed, through her art and words, profound truths about freedom and resistance.
Satrapi leaves behind an artistic and human legacy that will continue to resonate in literature, cinema, and graphic novels. She inspired generations of women around the world to defend their rights and raise their voices against injustice.
The artist has passed away, but her voice will live on in every story told about freedom, dignity, and courage.

“No matter how much I am in love with Paris and its indescribable beauty,” she added, “Tehran with all its ugliness will in my eyes forever be the ‘bride’ of all cities around the world.”
