On January 23, 1923, Frederick Banting and his team famously sold the patent rights to insulin for just $1, believing the life-saving treatment should belong to humanity rather than become a tool for profit. 💉🌍

Banting reportedly said, “Insulin does not belong to me, it belongs to the world,” reflecting his belief that people with diabetes should have access to treatment regardless of wealth.

The discovery of insulin went on to save millions of lives and became one of the most important medical breakthroughs in history.

More than a century later, Banting’s decision is still widely discussed as debates continue around the world over insulin prices, healthcare access, and pharmaceutical profits.

Do you think life-saving medicines should ever be allowed to become extremely expensive?
