Musican and Actor. He is also listed as an architect in some descriptions. Very little is known about him. He is remembered for his one desire in death to forever gaze on the face of his wife. The grave monument was designed by Belgian sculptor Adolphe Wansart (1873-1954) and constructed in 1946. The Epitaph on the grave reads: Ils furent emerveilles du beau voyage qui les mean jusq'au buot de la vie. (They marveled at the beauty of the journey that brought them to the end of life). Arbelot died in Paris, France, during the German Nazi occupation. One story is that he murdered his wife and committed suicide, but this is not confirmed. There are very few records currently available to indicate what he achieved in life, including the name of his wife, or her place of burial.

Newton, Helmut (1920-2004) - 1977 Pere Lachaise, Tomb of Talma, Paris

...Throughout the 1960s Newton's celebrity status brought him increasingly exotic assignments. Then, following a heart attack in 1971, Newton's work took on new purpose. He began to openly explore sexual themes, rocking the photography world and capturing interest around the globe. Newton's wife, June, is said to have encouraged him in this new career course as he began to depict women in increasingly aggressive and sometimes menacing roles. The 1978 horror classic "The Eyes of Laura Mars" was influenced directly by Newton's work.

Newton was the recipient of a number of honors, including Germany's Kodak Award for Photographic Books, the Tokyo Art Director's Club prize and an American Institute of Graphic Arts award. He was also recognized by the French and German governments. Life magazine honored Newton with the Life Legend Award for Lifetime Achievement in Magazine Photography in 1999. In 2003, Newton donated a large photo collection to the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in Berlin, the land of his birth. The collection remains there today.

Newton continued to travel during his waning years, primarily alternating between Los Angeles and Monte Carlo. He died on Jan. 24, 2004, in an automobile accident. His ashes are buried in his home city of Berlin.

Talma, François Joseph

ACTOR (FRANCE)
BORN 15 Jan 1763, Paris - DIED 19 Oct 1826, Paris
GRAVE LOCATION Paris: Père Lachaise, Rue du Repos 16 (division 12, ligne 01, W, 18)

Talma debuted in 1787 at the Comédie Française in Voltaire's "Mahomet". In 1789 his part in Chenier's "Charles IX" made him famous. He sympathized with the French Revolution and started his own theatre, the "Théâtre de la République". In 1799 this threatre merged with the Comédie Française.

Talma was the most famous tragedian of the time and he was a great favourite of Napoleon, who often invited him to lunch and probably adopted some of the mannerisms of the actor. In 1808 he performed in Voltaire's "Death of Ceasar" for the assembled monarchs at Erfurt. In 1813 he had an affair with Pauline, the emperor's sister. It went unnoticed at the time, but in later years the letters they had written to each other were found.
