Pronunciation: /ˈluːmɪɛː, lymjɛʀ/Definition of LumièreAuguste Marie Louis Nicholas (1862–1954) and Louis Jean (1864–1948), French inventors and pioneers of cinema. In 1895 the brothers patented their ‘Cinématographe’, a cine camera and projector in one. They also invented the improved ‘autochrome’ process of colour photography.
