Barbara G. Walker, Guru to the Kniterati, Is Dead at 95

After teaching herself to knit, she invented and cataloged stitch patterns, publishing seven foundational books that sold hundreds of thousands of copies.

After several years of researching stitch patterns, Ms. Walker compiled hundreds, sorting them into categories. That became the basis of her first book, “A Treasury of Knitting Patterns” (1968).Credit...Scribner's Sons
