The German author Siegfried Lenz has been awarded this year's Lev Kopelev Prize for Peace and Human Rights. He was honoured for his lifetime achievements at an award ceremony in Cologne. The 83-year-old Lenz is considered one of the most-read contemporary German authors. The Lev Kopelev Prize was established in 2001 in memory of the well-known Russian writer who lived and died in Cologne following his expulsion from the Soviet Union in the early 1980s.
