Noam Chomsky, world-renowned scholar and political activist, sent out a heartwarming message to #Hongkongers this morning. Chomsky said, "[I have] been following [the #antiELAB movement in Hong Kong] closely. The struggle of the young people against the extradition bill is a remarkable display of courage and integrity. Fortunately, it has great worldwide support, but there are few ideas about how to ward off a crackdown by China.” He added that while he has not written about Hong Kong or the equally remarkable popular protests in Sudan yet, he would bring the matters up in interviews if given the chance.
Noam Chomsky is a distinguished American scholar, author and political activist. Over the last 50 years, he has served as a groundbreaking linguist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as an avid anti-war and anti-imperialism activist. His book, Manufacturing Consent, has helped redefine the understanding of propaganda techniques. Chomsky has won countless awards both for his academic achievement and his political activism, including the Sydney Peace Prize and the Orwell Award and has been routinely voted as one of the greatest intellectuals and political heroes of our time.
