  2. Today marks the final day of Frank Sinatra's Centennial year!
In a 1991 interview with Humprey Burton, Gene Kelly, film director of "On the Town" who starred alongside Sinatra, described the difficulty of filming in NYC with the mob of Sinatra fans:
“We…had a problem called Frank Sinatra. At the time Frank couldn’t move in New York. He’d come out of the hotel with these swarms of girls attacking him. And also at hotels, but if he walked down the street a crowd would come out as if the President had been elected we were on Pennsylvania Avenue…We did shoot “Lonely Town” with Frank, that’s what happened to that.”
Rumor has it that Sinatra’s desire to be in the MGM Studios film classic “On The Town” was to sing Leonard Bernstein’s “Lonely Town”, which was cut from the film. Though it was cut from the film, Sinatra recorded “Loney Town” on Capital Records in 1957.

  • From Intelligent Life: Born a hundred years ago this December, and 17 years dead, Frank Sinatra is still very much with us. It’s not simply Sinatra the singer or Sinatra the showman who has been so significant: his work, his voice and his style are so instantly recognisable that little more needs to be said about them. What’s more important is the kind of star he was http://econ.st/1IR0JHOThe Economist 的相片。
