在他的距離中南海（地處北京市中心的中共領導層辦公大院）不遠的辦公室裡，中國副總理劉鶴保存著他與外國要人的大量合影照片。

劉鶴是中國國家主席習近平最信任的經濟顧問。自習近平在2012年末掌權以來經常拜訪劉鶴的外國政府官員和外交官稱，那些照片經常輪換——在迎接歐洲來訪者時，劉鶴與歐洲政要的合影會佈置在顯要位置；而在美國訪客到來時，牆上會掛著這位副總理與美國政要的合影。
