【政治是危險的】

海明威、馬奎斯、卡繆、山崎豐子、馬克·吐溫、格雷安．葛林、尼爾·蓋曼、喬治·歐威爾⋯⋯，這些名字的共同點是，曾經是優秀新聞記者。

相對的，當代新聞記者轉為傑出政治人物的例子，有如鳳毛麟角；主導脫歐、在英國政壇毀譽參半的鮑里斯·強森，勉強算是一個。其餘，大多一言難盡。

這讓我想起一個故事，連戰與蕭萬長競選總統之際，我在報社輪編政治版。當時，主跑連蕭配的資深記者，常發來一些讓我驚嚇的特稿。

例如有次，這位大哥發了一篇文情並茂的人物側寫，開場是連方瑀女士跟著連戰跑行程，空檔時，走在農田間，一邊哼著「走在鄉間的小路上」，破題後，盡情揮灑鋪展，稱頌連女士深入鄉間，和藹親切，體恤民情，絕不是一般人刻板印象的「貴夫人+前中姐」⋯⋯。

此外，文章還寫了一堆我拼命忘記的形容詞，拜讀完畢，我用求饒的口氣，望向負責政治版的副總編輯說：「這個我真的無法。」雙方眼神達成共識，稿件最後歸宿是垃圾桶。

忘了出現幾次類似場景，選後，這位資深前輩就主動離職，轉任連戰辦公室了。

對於新聞記者而言，政治是危險的，致命的，反天性的。記者的天職是監督政治人物，而不是愛上他們。

一旦被權力黑洞吸納，很難不背棄職涯謹守的一切分寸、界線、誓諾、義務，最後，淪為一具自己也不認識的儡偶，被密室盤算與己身利益操縱，對著鏡子，再也認不得自己。

而且，這是一張單程機票，有去無回。

我的結論是：新聞記者可能是偉大的文學家，但通常是拙劣的政客。
