June Brown, who plays one of Eastenders’ most iconic characters Dot Cotton, has admitted that she is losing her eyesight.
The actress, 88, told Radio 4: “I see things in my eyes now. My eyes are not very good. In the left occasionally I do get this small circle with what looks like cross-wires.
“I do pray about my sight – maybe it will return.”
She further disclosed that her continuing work ethic is driven by a fear of being poor when she’s old.
“You might laugh at that and think ‘she’ll never be poor when she’s old’ but I’ve not squirreled away lots of money.
“I’ve had two pensions each that have gone down by 50 per cent.”
Brown has played Dot Cotton for over 30 years.
She joined the long-running BBC soap, set in a fictional town in east London, when she was 58.
