Speaking at the White House, Donald Trump claimed a Nobel Prize recipient called him to say, “I am accepting this in honour of you because you really deserved it.” He said he helped during the crisis in Venezuela and “saved millions of lives.” Trump added, “I didn’t say, ‘Give it to me,’ though I think she might have,” suggesting his support was key to the laureate’s success.

In interviews, Venezuela’s opposition leader, María Corina Machado, called life in hiding “a difficult test.” She called for help from Donald Trump.
