A Hong Kong activist living in exile in Canada decided to lecture Japan about how it talks to its own women.
It did not go well for her.
Agnes Chow — the same activist who fled Hong Kong after Beijing's crackdown — posted on X that she "doesn't understand" why Japanese TV programs compliment unmarried women by saying they'd make a "good wife."
She called it troubling and demanded Japan "reconsider what diversity means."
Japanese users responded by telling her, in plain terms, that nobody asked.
The replies pointed out that she's a guest in a country whose language and culture she's still learning, and that being told you'd make a good partner is, in most of the world, simply called a compliment.
Chow then doubled down, posting that the backlash was "scary" and that she'd been called "anti-Japanese" and worse.
Here's the part she missed: Japan is one of the last major countries on earth where you can still say something nice about a woman without an activist materializing to explain why it's actually a slur.
Most Japanese women, by every survey ever conducted, are not begging for Western diversity coaching.
They are doing fine.
If "diversity" means importing the same identity politics that have torn apart every Western country that adopted them, Japan is right to pass.
