A very interesting discovery I made in China a few months ago....
Mickey Mouse: Editor-in-grief (1935) re-drawn and adapted for the chinese newspapers
Originally appepared on the Shangainese 正氣日報 (Zhengqi Newspaper) in 1947 with the title 米老鼠开报馆 (Mickey Mouse opens a newspaper office), apparently adapted and re-drawn by artist 凌山 (Ling Shan). It was then re-released as an illustrated novel on September of the same year.
In 1950, Sanlian Bookstore (三聯書店) from Beijing reissued the whole strips appeared on the newspaper in a now hard to find one-shot comic book.
As you can see in the photos, it's still written in traditional chinese reading from right to left and from top to down and - like a japanese manga - from the last page to the first
It's quite a rare comic book that even chinese die-hard Disney collectors have rarely seen and there aren't many people who can give more information or may possess a physical copy. I found it in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia and despite it's in not exceptional conditions, is one of the many unknown Disney publications made from 1947 to 1951. Incredibly more difficult to find than the publications made in the 30's and 40's.
It's nice to see the setting of the story: it's quite easy to recognize the Bund in Shangai and the typical interiors of the city during the opulence of the 30's and 40's
Cover is generic, with just a writing and a stamp, while back cover is simply blank. More than 100 pages.
