Richard Mead (11 August 1673 – 16 February 1754) was an English physician. His work, A Short Discourse concerning Pestilential Contagion, and the Method to be used to prevent it (1720), was of historic importance in the understanding of transmissible diseases.

In 1720, Richard Mead, an eminent physician, prepared a paper on how best to prevent the spread of bubonic plague to England. Mead's snappily titled paper, "A Short Discourse Concerning Pestilential Contagion and the Methods to be Used to Prevent it", is now on display as part of a fascinating new exhibition in London celebrating his career in public health http://econ.st/1vvmMQv
