a day for women to celebrate their friendships with their lady friends. It's Valentine's Day with your gals.

Happy
#Galentines to all the women who historians called ‘very close friends and roommates’
In 1778, Sarah Ponsonby and Eleanor Butler dressed in men's clothing and boarded a ship, fleeing their privileged lives in Ireland. They built a life in Llangollen, Wales, where they shared a home – and a bed – for 50 years.
When Eleanor died in 1829, Sarah soon followed, with their shared gravestone marking their enduring bond – though Eleanor’s obituary described her as Sarah’s
‘friend and companion’, erasing the romantic element of their relationship.
These two chocolate cups belonged to Sarah and Eleanor. They're decorated on one side with their family crests, and on the other with a depiction of their house, Plas Newydd. The saucer features a monogram of their intertwined initials.
Sarah and Eleanor risked everything to be together – and their elaborate and beautiful home and love story has made them an enduring symbol of queer joy
