藝術界哀悼亨利馬蒂斯逝世，享年84歲

巴黎，11月4日——藝術界今日沈痛悼念法國最偉大的畫家之一亨利·馬蒂斯，他於昨日下午在尼斯家中因心臟病突發去世，享年84歲。
這位年邁的藝術家自1940年接受一次大手術後就一直臥床不起，死神來得猝不及防。他的女兒瑪格麗特·杜蒂特夫人、醫生、護士和秘書都陪伴在他身邊。杜蒂特夫人幾天前從巴黎來到尼斯探望父親。
巴黎現代藝術博物館館長讓·卡蘇回憶說，馬蒂斯手術後大部分時間臥床不起，但他仍然堅持在房間裡作畫。

The donation comes from Barbara Dauphin Duthuit, widow of Claude Duthuit, Matisse’s grandson. The group includes 7 paintings, 28 drawings, 8 etchings, 6 lithographs, 5 original posters, 6 illustrated books, and one bronze sculpture.
Together, they cover several decades of Matisse’s work. A large part of the donation focuses on one subject: Marguerite Matisse, the artist’s daughter. She appears as a child, a young woman, and later as an adult, across works made between the early 1900s and the 1940s.
Some portraits show her with ribbons or high collars, used to hide the tracheotomy scar she carried since childhood.
During World War II, she joined the French Resistance, was arrested and tortured by the Gestapo, and narrowly escaped deportation. After her return in 1945, Matisse drew her again. Several works in the donation come from this late period.
Many of these pieces were shown recently in the exhibition “Matisse et Marguerite. Le regard d’un père” at the museum. After the exhibition, the family decided to make the loan permanent.
Before this donation, the museum held around 20 works by Matisse. It now holds 81, making this one of the most important Matisse collections in Paris outside major national museums.

Eight engravings by the French artist Henri Matisse were stolen from a library in Sao Paulo, the Brazilian city's government said Sunday.
News reports said two armed men stole the works from the Mario de Andrade Library and also took five works by the Brazilian painter Candido Portinari.
"The pair held up a security guard and an elderly couple who were visiting the library," police said in a statement sent to AFP.
"They both went into the glass dome where the documents were kept. The put the documents and the eight engravings into a canvas bag. The pair then fled through the main exit," policeaid. enforcement were on scene gathering evidence at the library, which is equipped with security cameras.
The art heist comes nearly two months after a group of thieves broke into the Louvre museum in Paris, stealing jewelry valued at around $100 million within a matter of minutes.
